About

Friday the 13th called and asked for a little zing. How many different worlds can share the same dancefloor? In the Berlin Room, Years of Denial, Lena Willikens and Borusiade trace strange, beautiful lines through darkness and solidarity. Meanwhile, in the Front Room, we join forces with the Norwegian Embassy in Bucharest for the closing party of Cinema Esperanto, welcoming a particularly special guest from the Norwegian electronic underground. We defo call this a blessing. BERLIN ROOMYEARS OF DENIAL [FR/CZ] Jerome Tcherneyan and Barkosina Hanusova return with their new live show, part of the Kindness in Darkness tour, presenting material from their forthcoming album Suicide Disco Vol. 3. EBM, electroclash, deathrock and post-punk collide with motorik rhythms and dub experimentation. Beneath the heavy basslines and confrontational energy lies a more tender proposition. Could you perhaps see darkness as a space for resistance, vulnerability and solidarity? LENA WILLIKENS [DE/NL] Lena Willikens needs little introduction to anyone who has followed adventurous dance music over the past decades. From her formative years in the '90s rave scene and her time at Düsseldorf's Salon des Amateurs to her Homunkuli radio show on NTS, she has developed a singular approach to DJing. Expect the unexpected, and a constantly shifting relationship between textures and rhythm. BORUSIADE Born in Bucharest, shaped in Berlin, Miruna Boruzescu has been carving out a sound that owes as much to classical training and film direction as it does to the club. Gloomy, epic, bass-heavy, obsessive: her records for Cómeme, Correspondant and Dark Entries move through dark disco, minimal wave and raw house without ever losing the thread of melody that makes darkness stick. FRONT ROOMBJØRN TORSKE [NO] Bjørn Torske has been quietly shaping the language of Norwegian electronic music since the early '90s. From his early Ismistik releases and the much-loved Nedi Myra to his long-standing relationship with Smalltown Supersound, his work shifts between house, disco, leftfield electronics and experimentation. A producer, DJ and composer for theatre and film, he has always followed his own musical compass. On the dancefloor, his sets fold dub, jazz, krautrock and Caribbean rhythms with warmth, curiosity, and, what matters most, a groove. CĂLIN Călin brings a different kind of electricity to the room. A familiar presence at Control, he made his DJ debut in 2011 and has since built a reputation as a devoted selector with an appetite for energetic sounds. His territory leans towards electro and electroid explorations, delivered with an infectious enthusiasm that makes standing still a fairly unreasonable option. He’s here to move, and he’s usually already dancing before the first transition lands. IRINA MELE Irina Mele treats a set with intention and grit. Rooted in house culture in its entirety, she draws from deep, soulful and acid house, Detroit techno, broken beat, and bits of jazz, funk and hip hop. The aim is simple but never simplistic: give the dancefloor a story worth staying for. Tickets:50 lei • presale
